Favorite things: Molly, hunting, fishing, hiking, photography, spending time with family, and ballroom dancing.
Favorite memory with Molly: Molly and my dad secretly arranged for her to take me to the Roof Restaurant in Salt Lake City for my birthday. The evening was marvelous. Looking into Molly's eyes with the lights of the city and the view of the Salt Lake City Temple in the background took my breath away completely.
How we met....
Okay, so here’s our story as it actually happened. I showed up to the BYU 1st Stake’s 50th anniversary dance with two of my best friends and roommates. We were, as usual, trying to be as funny and as cool as we could possibly be, but met with moderate success at best. As the evening wore on, I saw a group of girls dancing by themselves towards the back of the room. They seemed like fun girls so I bolstered up my courage and joined their group. The most friendly of the bunch was this blond-haired returned missionary named Molly. I, to be entirely honest, wasn’t exactly interested. However, I was looking out for my roommate, Cody Smith. I introduced Cody to Molly and was hoping that they would hit it off (Boy am I glad that didn’t work out!). Cody wasn’t very interested (Thankfully!), but we keep talking anyway.
Molly seemed like a really cool girl. She was smart, pretty, and she served her mission just a little bit north of where I did. I had a good time talking with her, but I didn’t ask her for her number.
Soon there after, I wanted to talk to her again, but all I knew was that she worked in the Smith Field House on BYU’s campus. I needed to go to that building for one of my dance class assignments and hoped to see her there. I lucked out! She was there and we were able to talk a little. From there on out it was smooth sailing into engagement-or maybe not.
We only went on one or two dates before the semester ended, but some how when I saw her the next semester on campus, I was interested in getting to know her.
The next semester was full of confusion. Molly gave me every sign to indicate that she was 110% smitten for me. I couldn’t make up my mind as to whether or not I liked her. I thought that as soon as I made up my mind to date her that it would be a done deal….
Well….I didn’t exactly read her “signs” as well as I thought. Molly wasn’t 110% interested. In fact, she was only 35% interested. We dated on and off until we finally decided to date “officially” in June. Since Molly stayed in Provo for Spring and Summer terms, I made several journeys out to see her. The drives to Provo were Always exciting and fun; the drives home…well, they weren’t always the funnest.
I have always teased Molly about marrying her, but she didn’t give me any verbal conformations that marriage was even a possibility until she came to Klamath for a visit. We planned on seeing how things went after I had been back in Provo for a month, but I was too in love to wait more than a few weeks after returning to school to ask her to marry me.
Our engagement day story is more enjoyable to tell than to write about. It’s especially fun when Molly tells it and her face beams with happiness. If you want to hear it, then just ask us!
